Meetings on Forced Migrants at Sea

(updated)

A workshop on "boat migration" will take place in Oxford on 18 Nov. 2011. Entitled "Governing Forced Migration by Sea: A Legal Perspective," the event "aims at detecting both the potentialities and shortcomings of the regime currently governing forced migration by sea, so that possible solutions and spaces for improvement may be identified."

This issue has been the focus of several other related events this year, including:

Conflict Situations and Migration Flows in the Mediterranean Area, Sanremo, 4-5 Nov. 2011 [info]

Expert Meeting on Refugees and Asylum Seekers in Distress at Sea: How Best to Respond?, Djibouti, 8-10 Nov. 2011 [agenda] [background paper] [concept note] [IOM briefing notes]

I will post any reports or other materials for these meetings, if and when they become available.
