Tip of the Week! Free Journal Content

Scholarly journal publishers regularly promote their fee-based content by offering various types of freebies. Wiley uses the new year as an opportunity to provide complimentary access to many of the first (usually January or February) issues of new journal volumes.  That's why you can not only peruse but also download the articles in Disasters, vol. 38, no. 1 (Jan. 2014) and International Migration, vol. 52, no. 1 (Feb. 2014).  Watch for International Migration Review's first-of-the-year issue too.

Here are some examples of free articles in other disciplinary journals that may be of interest:

Journal publishers often recognize International Days by making a set of research articles free on a temporary basis. So in honor of World AIDS Day, Taylor & Francis is offering free access to AIDS/HIV-related articles until 31 Jan. 2014.  The following titles are particularly relevant:

Oxford Journals commemorated Human Rights Day the same way, presenting visitors with this collection of selected articles (including some from IJRL, JRS & RSQ) made freely available for a limited time.

Cambridge Journals' Facebook page very helpfully directs visitors to free content in individual journals. That's how I learned that this article is freely available until 13 Feb. 2014:
