News: New IDMC Internal Displacement Overview & Database

In the past, the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) has published two annual overviews, one that focused on people displaced internally by conflict and violence and the other that assessed disaster-induced displacement. This year's volume, now renamed the Global Report on Internal Displacement (GRID), combines the two surveys into one. Also new is its exploration of "off the grid" displacement such as that caused by criminal violence, drought and development projects. From the Foreword:
"The Global Report on Internal Displacement (GRID) aims to provide a more holistic picture of the phenomenon, regardless of cause. In time for the World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul, it also aims to highlight displacement as a multidimensional challenge that must involve humanitarian, sustainable development, peace-building, disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation work."

The Global Report can be downloaded in full or browsed via the companion micro-site.

Complementing this newly revised report is the launch of the Global Internal Displacement Database, an interactive platform that "enables you to explore, filter and sort IDMC’s data to produce your own graphs and tables which you can export in several different formats. You can also access and export the data used to generate these visualisations."
