The New York Times is reporting that the U.S. president will sign an executive order today (which happens to be World Refugee Day) which will end his family separation policy but will still require families who enter "illegally" to be detained together.

This earlier post in The Conversation highlighted a variety of alternative options open to the president that would not violate international human rights norms.

A recent poll found most Americans opposed the family separation policy.
