Thematic Focus: Solutions

News:

Politico reported last night that the Trump administration is considering a virtual elimination of the U.S. refugee resettlement program. Officials have been meeting as part of the annual process of setting the refugee admissions cap. Recommendations must be submitted by 1 August 2019. As this NPR article notes, refugee admissions to the U.S. were already greatly reduced in 2018. (The current cap is 30,000, down from 45,000.) Moreover, this Niskanen Center blog post points to the regional discrepancies reflected in FY2019 admissions to date, while this analysis by the International Rescue Committee highlights the extent to which religious minorities have been particularly impacted by the reduced numbers.
