Yesterday, the U.S. State Department announced that the administration is proposing a FY 2020 refugee admissions cap of 18,000 to Congress, down from 30,000 last year. In addition, an Executive Order was issued that seeks "to resettle refugees only in those jurisdictions in which both the State and local governments have consented to receive refugees under the Department of State’s Reception and Placement Program (Program)." The Secretaries of State and Health and Human Services have 90 days to implement a process that achieves this objective. See this Vox article and Immigration Impact blog post for more details.
