Italy has been in the spotlight lately after it forcibly returned several hundred migrants to Libya, violating their right to seek asylum as allowed under international law. ECRE issued a statement yesterday condemning the action and citing a letter written by Pro Asyl to the European Commission. Similar statements were issued earlier by Human Rights Watch, JRS Europe, and UNHCR.
In light of these developments, a new book entitled International Legal Standards for the Protection from Refoulement should be of interest to legal scholars, policy makers, and refugee advocates.
