As has been noted in past postings, 2011 is a year of anniversaries. Three in particular are the focus of a series of planned commemorative events put on by UNHCR:- 60th anniversary of the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees
- 50th anniversary of the 1961 Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness
- 150th Anniversary of the birth of Fridtjof Nansen, First League of Nations High Commissioner for Refugees
UNHCR has compiled a tentative calendar of some of these events. This presentation, concept note and guidance note explain what the organization hopes to accomplish in commemorating these milestones. Another paper sets forth ideas for roles that NGOs can play in helping to realize these goals.
