Commemorating Refugee Protection Milestones

UNHCR's just released Global Appeal for 2011 includes an indication of how the organization will be commemorating the upcoming anniversaries, of UNHCR's 60th on 14 December 2010, Fridtjof Nansen's 150th on 10 October 2011, and the refugee/statelessness conventions on 7-8 December 2011, respectively.

More recently, a meeting of Latin American nations in Brasilia just ended with the adoption of the Brasilia Declaration on the Protection of Refugees and Stateless Persons in the Americas. Held to mark the various aforementioned anniversaries, the gathering agreed "to do more for the protection of forcibly displaced and stateless people in the region" (see photo).
