IDP News: New Special Rapporteur, Kampala Convention Resource

Dr. Chaloka Beyani has been appointed as the new Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons. He takes over from Mr. Walter Kälin, whose term ended October 2010. One of Dr. Beyani's recent accomplishments is his participation in the drafting of and negotiations involving the African Union Convention on Internally Displaced Persons (Kampala Convention).

Following on from its commemoration of the first anniversary of the Kampala Convention, the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) has launched a new feature which introduces the convention, provides information about displacement in Africa, and promotes greater ratification and implementation of the convention. Use the menu on the left to navigate through the different sections.
