Organised Crime and Migration: Criminal Groups, Corruption and the Displacement Crisis in Central America and Mexico (Univ. of London Press, June 2026) [open access]

- "Human mobility, organised crime and corruption remain critical issues in Mexico and Central America. This book is the first to consider together three major, interconnected ways in which organised crime shapes migration in the region – as a driver of internal displacement and external migration, a threat to migrants in transit, and a facilitator of unauthorised migration through people-smuggling – and to analyse state action and accountability in relation to these. Drawing on original interview material with key informants, migrants and refugees, the book analyses how organised criminal groups provoke forced migration, exploit migrants and control people-smuggling, the decision-making and displacement dynamics of people affected by gang violence, and the role of policy, corruption and impunity in the evolution and perpetuation of this situation."

Diasporic Marginalities and the Second-Best Destination: Exploring Migration from Turkey to Italy (Palgrave Macmillan, Aug. 2026) [open access]

- "Drawing on decade-long ethnographic fieldwork and more than 100 interviews with families and second-generation young adults, the book traces trajectories of arrival, through asylum, irregular transit, family reunification, and work networks, and the gradual consolidation of lives in which onward-migration remains a live horizon. Through the concepts of 'learning to stay' and 'diasporic marginalities', the analysis moves between intimate family routines and wider transnational social fields. It examines gendered labor, religious and associational infrastructures, and the digital comparisons through which migrants position Italy against more established diasporic centers in Europe. Destinations, the book argues, are structurally produced positions, not chosen endpoints, a reframing that opens new ground for understanding how precarity, aspiration, and belonging are negotiated across mobile lives."

Migration Governance in Central and Eastern European Cities Post-2015 (Springer, Aug. 2026) [open access]

- "For decades, CEE cities were primarily shaped by emigration. However, more than a decade of unprecedented change—from the 2015 European refugee reception crisis to the 2022 full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, which triggered the largest forced displacement in Europe since World War II—has transformed the region into one of Europe’s most dynamic new immigrant destinations. This volume offers the first comprehensive account of how nine diverse CEE cities across Poland, Czechia, Hungary, and Romania are navigating this new reality. Moving beyond traditional Western-centric models, the book explores the ‘local turn’ in migration studies through the experiences of capital cities such as Warsaw, Prague, and Budapest. It also examines rapidly diversifying second-tier cities like Kraków and Brno, as well as border and shrinking cities including Lublin, Oradea, Płock, and Łomża. Readers are introduced to the innovative CEE Local Migrant Governance Index (CEELMiG), a novel tool designed to measure and compare local policies across CEE cities—capturing integration strategies, coordination mechanisms, migrant participation, research on diversity, and the funding schemes of inclusive measures. From ‘mainstreaming by accident’ to the rise of grassroots solidarity, the book highlights how local administrators, activists, and residents are bridging service gaps and redefining urban citizenship in contexts marked by crisis and illiberal pressures."
