Events Commemorating 1951 Convention

Here are a few more events that will be convened in 2011 to reflect on the role of the refugee convention and the nature of international protection. Previous ones were noted here and here.

- "2011 is the sixtieth anniversary of the UN Refugee Convention. The Convention has saved thousands of lives and no country has ever withdrawn from it. This meeting marks the beginning of the sixtieth anniversary year, reflecting on Britain's historic role in providing protection to refugees, and the continuing importance of refugee protection in the 21st century."

- "To mark the 60th anniversary of the Refuge Convention, the speakers will discuss whether the existing arrangements are adequate to meet new challenges and old."

"Looking to the Future, Learning from the Past: A Conference to Mark 60 Years of the Refugee Convention," UNSW Centre for Refugee Research, Sydney, 14-17 June 2011 [info]
- "The Conference will provide a timely opportunity to reflect on the strengths and achievements of the Refugee Convention and refugee protection system, and to consider what further action is needed to secure the rights of refugees during flight, in countries of asylum and in resettlement."
