Handbook on Migration to China (Edward Elgar, Sept. 2025) [open access]
- "This Handbook introduces the developments that have positioned China within the global migration order and explores the resulting diversities in Chinese society. It is written during a time of flux in international political and economic relations before the temporary mobility disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic could be distinguished from their long-term consequences. While it might have seemed prudent to wait for greater clarity before compiling this Handbook, it has become evident that long-term certainty may remain elusive. Amid this significant uncertainty, we find it valuable to bring together a diverse group of scholars to highlight two key points: 1) Chinese society has been shaped by immigration and the presence of foreigners; and 2) global migration orders have been profoundly influenced by China's emergence as an immigration country."
