- "This open access book examines how and why various forms of climate (im)mobilities can impact people's objective and subjective well-being. Worsening climate impacts are forcing subsistence farmers worldwide to decide between staying or leaving their homes. This mixed methods study analyzes cases of climate-related migration, displacement, relocation, and immobility in Peru's coastal, highland, and rainforest regions. The results reveal that numerous farmers experienced profound and often negative well-being impacts, regardless of whether they stayed or migrated. The higher the structural constraints, such as weak governance, and the more damaging the climate impacts were, the higher the risk of well-being declines. Additionally, the affected individuals often had limited agency and ability to mitigate losses. These findings challenge the notion of 'migration as adaptation' and emphasize the importance of safeguarding the human rights and security of those affected while addressing loss and damage."

News: Refworld gets a refresh!

Refworld has undergone a significant transformation in its look and feel! It's unclear how content has been affected, but the new interface is definitely a welcome change - the old site was getting a bit cluttered. Now described as UNHCR's Global Law and Policy Database, the new Refworld has essentially been re-structured to provide more options for drilling down to locate the information you want. It accomplishes this via its revamped search engine, which offers more ways to sort and filter search results. 

I haven't yet had a chance to take an in-depth look at what else has changed in Refworld, but will post again if there is anything significant. In the meantime, if you come across anything that is missing or that is malfunctioning, you can contact staff members here.

News: Access to MQUP Book Series on "Refugee and Forced Migration Studies"

(updated July 2025)

McGill-Queen's University Press (MQUP) and LERRN publish a book series on "Refugee and Forced Migration Studies"; physical and e-book versions can be ordered via the a/m link. However, it is important to note that "the series includes some books published in open access available to all readers. It also includes books available for sale that are also made available here in e-book format without a paywall, exclusively to readers, scholars, and students located in the Global South and those who are part of non-profit or community organizations concerned with displacement and who lack the resources needed to access the books though a purchase."

The collection is hosted by Carleton University's institutional repository. Visit the individual title to determine whether it is open access to all or freely available to the a/m subset of readers. Currently, 18 books in the series are available.
