August 19th is World Humanitarian Day. This day honors "all humanitarian and United Nations and associated personnel who have lost their lives in the cause of duty and those who have worked in the promotion of the humanitarian cause." It was established after the bombing of the UN headquarters in Baghdad on 19 August 2003, which killed Sergio Vieira de Mello and 21 other people. Over 100 humanitarian workers died on duty during 2009.
