News: 70th Session of EXCOM

The 70th session of the Executive Committee of the High Commissioner’s Programme will take place in Geneva from 7-11 October 2019. A High-level Segment on Statelessness will be held on the first day of the session to "mark the mid-point of the #IBELONG Campaign to End Statelessness." The aim is for States and others to highlight achievements in addressing statelessness since the launch of the campaign in Nov. 2014 and to provide pledges to continue addressing statelessness over the remaining five years of the campaign. Background documents, reports from preparatory meetings and other related resources are available here. Finally, the Nansen Refugee Award ceremony will take place the evening of 7 October. The recipient was announced today: The award will go to Azizbek Ashurov, a lawyer from the Kyrgyz Republic who helped his country become the first to end statelessness.
