The following side events have also been scheduled:
- Oct. 3: A review of the state of refugee education - The key to the future: providing quality education to all refugee children
- Oct. 4: 1) Prevent, Protect, Reduce: Action on Statelessness in 2011; 2) Expert roundtables held in the framework of the commemorations
- Oct. 5: 1) Transitional Solutions Initiative: A joint UNHCR-UNDP presentation on eastern Sudan and Colombia; 2) The Somalia emergency
- Oct. 6: 1) 60th anniversary agenda: Regional cooperation in Asia and beyond; 2) Update on the Côte d’Ivoire situation
- Oct. 7: ICVA side event: The gathering storm: natural disasters, vulnerability and protection challenges
In addition, the Nansen Refugee Award ceremony will be held on the evening of the first night. This year's winner is a Yemeni NGO, the Society for Humanitarian Solidarity (SHS), for its "life-saving work with refugees and migrants who make the treacherous sea journey to Yemen."
