UNHCR's UK office has recently posted a number of new documents on its website that supplement its initial public statement on the UK government's "Illegal Migration Bill." These include:
- their formal legal observations on the bill;
- an explainer on "Why the UK Illegal Migration Bill is an Asylum Ban";
- a fact sheet on "Arrivals to the UK over the Channel"; and
- a fact sheet on "Safe and Regular Routes to the UK for Refugees and Asylum Seekers"
The office concludes that "There are ways to reduce dangerous journeys while still protecting refugees and asylum seekers from harm and complying with international law. Making the asylum system work,
rather than shutting it down, is key to tackling this challenge."
