Taking Stock...

In 2012:

As part of a larger feature on migration, IRIN has released a list of the Top 10 Neglected Refugee Crises in the world today.  Highlighted displacement situations include:
  • Sudanese refugees in Chad
  • Eritrean refugees in eastern Sudan
  • Sudanese refugees in South Sudan
  • IDPs in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)
  • Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh
  • Tamil refugees in India
  • Afghan refugees in Iran
  • Horn of Africa refugees in Yemen
  • Malian IDPs and refugees in neighbouring countries
  • IDPs in Colombia

Keep an eye on the Migration Information Source, as it usually compiles a "Top Ten" list of its own at about this time.

Earlier in the month, Human Rights Watch's Refugee Program circulated a letter documenting five particularly serious incidents of non-refoulement this year.

Anniversaries also present an opportunity for reviewing the past and planning for the future.  Several recent ones include:
