Blog series: OA Articles Published by Global South Authors - Pt. 2

Gold OA

Part 2 of this blog series lists 25 gold OA articles, i.e., they were published in fully open access journals upon payment of an article processing charge (APC). Standard APCs for each journal are indicated below. While most OA journal publishers offer waivers, discounts or some kind of fee support, the actual waiver status of the authors in this collection is not known.

As noted in yesterday's post, some articles resulted from North-South collaborations, but I have only included those that had a lead author or at least half of all authors from the global South.

Observations:
- The geographic breakdown for these articles is: Africa = 6; Americas = 2; Asia = 10; MENA = 7.
- 40% of the articles were produced via North-South collaborations, significantly more than the diamond OA category.
- A greater percentage of the publishers listed in this collection are headquartered in the global North. Those that are GS-based are marked with an asterisk.
- The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) is a useful resource for locating relevant gold OA articles.
